One my favorite web video series, Zero Punctuation is a weekly video game reviews created by comedy writer Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw and produced for online magazine The Escapist. Yahtzee’s hilarious animated reviews are fast-paced, expletive-laden and viciously rude. But most of all, his relentless quest for quality in such a crud-infested industry is both entertaining and inspirational.
“Nobody loves you like your mama loves you, but who’s lovin’ your mama? I am. I am!” Check out this awesome 2005 video from electro-pop artist Kennedy. This song about a lecherous teacher and sassy school moms is guaranteed to either delight or offend you.
“Young Folks” is a surprisingly touching pop ballad duet. This song brought vividly to my mind the fragile and exhilarating moments at the start of a relationship where one discovers that someone else may in fact be willing to accept and love you.
“You suck at Photoshop” is a demented series of web-based Photoshop mock-tutorials (or mockutorials) that chronicles the fictional mental breakdown of a graphic designer over his failed marriage.
More Machinima excellence from Zachariah Scott of Lit Fuse Films. This gorgeous music video clip set in the world of Half Life II is a wistful, poetic vision of the life under military occupation where privacy and hope are things long forgotten.
In this entertaining TED conference Scott McCloud summaries his theories about comics from his two ground-breaking books Understanding Comics (2003) and Reinventing Comics (2000).
Even if the Arbiter had yet to make it’s first on-screen appearance, these three Machinima comedy shorts from John Graham are just as hilarious (or even more!) as the more recent episodes.
A masterpiece of machinima animation, Ignis Solus (Latin for “Burn Alone”) uses the colorful and cartoony Team Fortress 2 game engine to weave a stirring tale of solitude and of the peculiar connection with strangers one can experience within the context of a multiplayer action game.
More machinima madness as Watch officer Bundles and Lieutenant Tibbles, proud members of the Combine’s Civil Protection overwatch, display various levels of competence in the line of duty.
