A second chance to suck less

Big Fat Brains, the creative geniuses behind You Suck at Photoshop, are back in fine form with the first new YSAP episode since April 2008. Although I enjoy pretty much anything these guys can cobble together, You Suck at Photoshop was clearly the crown on their (family) jewels. I’m heartily glad to see them back in a new distribution channel more suited to this kind of material than the creepy and uneven My Damn Channel which hosted the original series.

Supported from a generous $500 grant from Big Fat Institute, Big Fat University, or BFU for short, is a virtual college where you can learn to be less stupid in such skills as image manipulation, guitar playing, screenwriting, music production and drawing. The BFU concept hints at an unlimited number of potential demented courses as other deviant teachers join the faculty and share their twisted yet unexpectedly useful knowledge.

BFU tuition is currently free, so enroll quickly before the university’s business model collapses under the weight of the many lawsuits that are sure to rain upon their crazy asses.

Class of 2009

Here is a sample of the Fall 2009 BFU curriculum. More courses will likely be added in the months to come, whether you like it or not.

You Suck at Photoshop, Class 301: Color Correction

You Suck at Photoshop is back as a prequel to Season 1 where a pre-metal breakdown Donnie Hoyle aims to help you "succeed at Photoshop" and get more enjoyment out of life, like you would if you had just found a “special someone” to spend time with, but before that person break your heart and crushes your spirit into pulp. The use of Photoshop 4 on a MAC Power PC adds lots of retro-laughs to the tutorial experience yet the techniques demonstrated are still applicable on today’s software.

INT. SCREENPLAY - NIGHT, Class 101: Standard Screenplay Format

The basics of screenwriting and storytelling are now made accessible to even the most dim-witted hacks thanks to the unraveling mind of Matt Bledsoe, the lesser known half of Big Fat Brain.

Guitar for Dicks, Class 101: Drop D Tuning

Are you a dick? Do you wish to learn guitar to pick-up chicks and dominate your “friends”? Join Brad Jonesworth and learn how to fake your way through the first few bars of a simple rock song and unleash your inner-poser.

Drawing From Life, Class 101: Komposition

Gerhard Schmerkle brings a much needed dose of European sophistication and German know-how to BFU with his fine art classes, teaching basic drawing techniques while exploring inspiring subjects such as “Shpanking” and existential angst.

Music Juice, Class 101: Garangeband Launch Pad

Get your music juice squeezed as you learn to create a far-out “shmagical” rock opera with super-producer Glenn Persons. Also featuring a 90 foot robot. And space seagulls.
