Each episode of the this hilarious spoof of Photoshop tutorials begins straightforwardly enough as a specific image editing task but quickly devolves into an angst-ridden descent into madness.
Photoshop your way out of your depressing life
For instance, in the first episode, while looking for a picture to edit, Donnie starts out by suggesting pictures of “family or people who care about you” but finally suggest using “the picture of the van your wife and best friend from high school spend their Friday nights in.” Using this picture, Donnie suggest, you can use Photoshop to simulate what you would want to do to the actual van (such as plastering a copy of your marriage certificate on the front window.)
In the course of his tutorials, Donnie will stutter, cringe and hesitate his way through the tutorial with exquisitely deranged voice acting. He is often interrupted by the voice of his wife or voice messages from IM friends, completely disrupting the pace of his presentation as he tries to hide what he’s doing or get rid of the annoyance. These sketches are also peppered by sight gags such as when Donnie scrolls further down down the list of photos to reveal pictures of guns, hinting at the narrator’s state of mind and potential plans of revenge.
A new kind of entertainment for a new media age
This series of short videos, using only screen grabs of the author’s computer and voice-overs is as funny and professional as anything you could get on TV. This is yet another example of ground-breaking comedy we can expect to see emerge from the YouTube generation of media distribution where anyone with an idea and a computer can become a media mogul. The worst of it is that in between bouts of vomit-inducing fits of unstoppable laughter, you can actually learn something from these crazy tutorials.
