AdSense is GO!

I’ve decided to give AdSense a try. AdSense is Google’s webmaster-friendly ad program that allows you to put ad links or ad banners on your website easily and at no charge whatsoever.

I have chosen to try the AdLinks and put them on top of the right column of most of my website’s pages. This format is pretty unobtrusive and blends well with my website’s design. This is due in part with AdSense’s great customisation features.

Since Shimmering Water’s traffic has been increasing by 50% each month (!!) since the launch of the new Spip-powered version last November, I thought it could be fun to see just how much revenue a small yet growing website like mine could gather. Based on this experience, I may choose to keep this feature or even recommend it to my customers for their own websites.

A first observation is that there is no formal way to control the language used by the ad. This has to be figured out by Google itself and, in such a mixed-language website as mine, it seems to be a hit-or-miss kinda thing...

Please don’t hesitate to let me know what you think about this by leaving a comment below. :)

[UPDATE April 12, 2005] I wrote to Google about how difficult it was to switch the language for the AdLink I placed on my website. To my surprise, I got an answer only two days later (which I consider pretty good indeed!). The person took the time to inspect the code on my page and, well, the mistake was mine and easily resolved.

To top it off, barely one week after I first placed the AdLink, I was already making money! This is indeed an awesome program.

Way to go, Google!
